lounging in style

Cashaca, formerly known as Mukta, is located just outside the centre, or at least slightly outside of where the majority of the town’s offbeat lounge bars and cafés are located. But this should not act as a deterrent as it creates an all-consuming atmosphere with its flat screen televisions in the garden area, showing either football or music videos and a variety of music to suit most tastes.

The place is inviting, with a mainly 60s theme in the outside space complete with retro white chairs and bamboo couches clad with psychedelic cushions, under a plush marquee. The interior boasts much more of a masculine decadence with a variety of wallpapered walls in dark colours and black, sleek, shiny chairs and tables. In true lounge style, the whole place is decked with a soft lighting – even the bathrooms – creating a calming atmosphere.

Happening upon the place completely coincidentlally on opening night was only a plus as we were privy to lots of snacks – as it was opening night they didn’t have a food menu up and running – and a semi-naked man wielding balls of fire.

The music will appeal to most as despite a rather schizophrenic playlist by the DJ he manages to include a bit of relaxing lounge music, techno and some pop.

The drinks are reasonably priced starting with €5 for a beer, a cosmopolitan for €9 and they do a fierce Mojito Black (as well as a variety of flavours) starting at €8.

This bar is for those who are not entirely certain what they want as it caters for anyone looking to lounge around in comfortable, cushiony couches or those who simply want to perch, cocktail in hand, at the bar and even those who just want to sit round a table and enjoy a friend’s conversation.
