Sick of staff leave
It comes as no surprise to read that doctors (and, indeed, most other workers in government and semi-government organisations) are often on sick leave (Minister’s hospital visit highlights sick leave problem, Cyprus Mail Thursday October 1).
It seems that sick leave is considered by most to be an entitlement, and it would be interesting to access the records of public officials to see how many of them (and who) take their entire allowance for sick leave every year – and how many of those sick leave days off fall either side of a weekend or public holiday!
Imagine the increase in productivity if they were only able to take off time when they really are sick; are there any statistics comparing sick leave taken in the private and public sector I wonder?
