‘Tseri airport’
THE GOVERNMENT is studying a proposal to build a small airport for light aircraft in Tseri in the Nicosia District, said AKEL deputy Irini Charalambidou yesterday. Charalambidou said the decision to carry out the study was announced by Communications Minister Efthymios Flourentzos during yesterday’s House Watchdog Committee. The outcome of the study will be announced shortly, she said, noting that the aim is for the airport to be built at the lowest possible cost while bringing in substantial revenue. The planned light aircraft airport will also cover requirements for carrying out pilot training, said the AKEL MP, adding that the decision to locate the airport in Tseri is not final. ... 14 comments
Wheelchair granny’s underwear was stuffed with jewellery
A WHEELCHAIR-BOUND 83-year-old woman, underwear stuffed with jewellery, was arrested, along with three others for allegedly trying to smuggle stolen goods out of the country late on Thursday.Three Armenian women, including the 83-year-old, and a Cypriot man, 41, were yesterday remanded for five days by the Larnaca District Court.When she appeared in court yesterday, the 83-year-old grandmother had seemingly abandoned the use of the wheelchair and walked into the courthouse on her own. Airport strike to go ahead today
AROUND 10,000 passengers and 80 flights to and from Paphos and Larnaca Airports will be affected by the air traffic controllers’ (ATC) strikes this month as a final plea to call off today’s action fell on deaf ears.According to the airports’ spokesman, Adamos Aspris, today’s four-hour strike starting at noon, as well as another two at the same times on Monday and next Thursday, are expected to create huge problems for the airports, as well as the travelling public.“Based on preliminary data by Hermes Airports’ Operations Centre, the new strikes are expected to affect 36 flights (today) at Cyprus’ two international airports, 18 arrivals and 18 departures,” said Aspris.
