Potato packers stage warning strike
AROUND 100 potato packers went on a 24-hour strike yesterday to protest against wage and benefit cuts. The potato packers went on strike in Larnaca, Vrysoules and Liopetri over a 22 per cent in wages and other cuts including overtime. They warned that unless their demands are met, they will proceed with an indefinite strike. Around 50 workers gathered outside a packing unit in Ormidhia to make the point that it is staffed by foreign labour who have little legal protection and are paid much lower salaries, thereby increasing unfair competition in the market place. ... 2 comments
