CY announces new routes
CYPRUS Airways (CY) will launch a twice weekly charter flight to Amman as of June 7, it announced yesterday, along with six weekly flights to Brussels.The agreement for flights to Amman was signed with Jordanian travel agents in a bid to not only increase tourism from the area to the island but also for Cypriots who wish to visit there.The national carrier will also start six flights weekly to Brussels next month from Larnaca, every day apart from Saturday, as Cyprus takes over the EU presidency in July.In addition, as part of an agreement between CY and various Cypriot travel agents, 60 charter flights will operate to destinations in Greece and Europe from July to September including Skiathos, Kefalonia, Milan, Barcelona and Prague... 10 comments
Paphos taxis to be inspected
INSPECTIONS of all taxis at Paphos airport will be carried out over the next few days following a raft of complaints related to overcharging, the head of the road transport department said yesterday.Soteris Kolettas told the Cyprus Mail: “In the wake of the reports, which came to my attention, of increased numbers of alleged overcharging at the airport, we will be arranging a common inspection in cooperation with the traffic police, of all of the taxi vehicles at the airport in the next few days”.The inspection will include checking that all vehicles have operational meters, which are in regular use and in compliance with the law... 43 comments
A new era begins for Paphos
THE INAUGURAL flights of low-cost airline Ryanair are due to touch down in Paphos this morning. The flights are from Frankfurt in Germany and Stockholm in Sweden and are scheduled to land at around11.40am and 11.50am respectively.Nassos Hadjigeorgiou, the head of the Paphos regional board of tourism said the load factor on both flights is 85 per cent.“In cooperation with Hermes Airports and Ryanair, we have organised an event to be held at Paphos airport from 11am-1pm,” he said. “The welcome event will coincide with the first-ever flights from Ryanair to land in Paphos.”Hadjigeorgiou said the town was thrilled to see that the flights had got off to a good start... 11 comments
Paphos looks to Ukrainian market
DIRECT weekly flights between Paphos and Kiev are due to commence in April.With this in mind, representatives of the local tourist industry are on their way to the Ukraine to take part in a tourist exhibition, with the aim of encouraging more Ukrainians to visit Paphos.The head of the Paphos regional board of tourism Nassos Hadjigeorgiou said they would have a place on the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) stand.“I am going to represent the local board along with a number of Paphos hoteliers,” he said.The delegation will also participate in a workshop organised by a Ukrainian tour operator, who will be operating the new flights to and from Paphos this coming summer... 2 comments
