Call to name dodgy electricians

PARLIAMENT yesterday requested a list of the electricians whose licences were revoked after it emerged they weren’t properly qualified, and asked the state who would be picking up the cost for checking the buildings they worked on.The head of the licensed electricians association called on the public to immediately have their houses checked and seek reimbursement from the state.From some 2,000 electricians islandwide, 122 licences had proved to be problematic in that they were approved for applicants who failed their exams. Paphos man dies under tractor

A 65-YEAR-OLD was crushed to death by his tractor yesterday after he fell from the driver’s seat in village of Mandria in Paphos.The man had gone to check on his olive trees and was turning onto a raised field with tall grass, state broadcaster CyBC said.He fell under the wheels of the tractor. The farmer was taken to Paphos General Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. The tractor was reportedly not fitted with a protective rail. Limassol man burned while lighting fire

A 21-YEAR-OLD man from Pyrgos in Limassol sustained first and second-degree burns while attempting to set a fireplace.According to police, the young man was attempting to light his grandmother’s fire when he was suddenly engulfed by flames. He sustained burns over 40 per cent of his body, including his face and is being treated at Nicosia General Hospital. Moni police are investigating... 3 comments

Man crushed by water tank

A 40-YEAR-OLD man from Nicosia was yesterday in serious condition after being crushed by a water tank while at work.The 40-year-old was working on a house roof in Agios Dometios at a little before 11 am, attempting to change the frames of a solar panel. Under circumstances that are being investigated by the police, the water tank came loose and fell on top of the worker.The head of the Nicosia Fire Stations, Miltos Miltiadous, was asked if the strong winds had something to do with the incident. “The conditions under which the accident occurred are being investigated,” he said... 4 comments
