‘China is finally here’
A CHINESE official delegation has spent the last week in Cyprus looking at prospects for investment by Chinese businesses in Cyprus. The Limassol Chamber of Commerce yesterday held a joint press conference with the Chinese Commerce Ministry’s Investment Promotion Council (IPC) in the coastal town to announce the launch of the non-profit organisation ‘China-Europe Business Zone’. Only seven per cent of 3,000 IPC cases settled
THE IMMOVEABLE Property Commission (IPC) in the north has settled only seven per cent of the 3,174 cases filed by Greek Cypriot refugees since its inception, according to the latest statistics. The IPC was set up in 2006 to provide alternative remedies for Greek Cypriot owners of property in the north but was largely ignored until the European Court of Human Rights ruled in the 2010 Demopoulos case that the Commission provided an effective domestic remedy. The ruling immediately ended thousands of Greek Cypriot cases pending at the Strasbourg-based ECHR. Refugees were now obliged to go through the IPC and an appellate ‘high administrative court’ in the north before going the way of Strasbourg. ... 7 comments
