Restaurant Review: La Spaghetteria, Nicosia
We were at a social function in the centre of the capital when I was asked if we had reviewed La Spaghetteria which was open and close by. I must have passed it a thousand times and not seen it. Any number of friends and relatives, particularly those with an Italian leaning, have dined there and mentioned the home made pasta in all its forms. The establishment has been there for years and obviously serving the customers to a reasonable standard, or so one would expect... Bar review: Café Mercedes, Nicosia
Feeling obliged to take some foreign colleagues out for drinks towards the end of their stay led me to choosing Café Mercedes for a number of reasons. I had asked them whether they wanted trendy or laid-back, although I fearfully knew the answer would be trendy. Wanting to go somewhere I had never been before but not wanting to be too far from the local laid-back bars like Brewfellas and the Weaving Mill, I chose Café Mercedes for our excursion... Read on

Israel-Turkey dιtente present new opportunities for Cyprus
RECENT events in Nicosia and Jerusalem, two cities that are 250 miles apart, could well change the geopolitics of the eastern Mediterranean. On March 25, the people of Cyprus digested the €10 billion euro bail-out agreed upon in Brussels by President Nicos Anastasiades and the troika of lenders, staving off an uncontrolled default and the country’s exit from the euro. Cyprus will nonetheless have to pay a high price for the banking crisis. Cypriots face several years of high unemployment, reduced living standards, and economic hardship... 11 comments
Bar review: Cashaca Café Bar & Lounge, Nicosia
With people reeling from the current financial situation, restaurants and bars are trying to draw customers in and try to make them forget about the horrors of deposit levies and austerity measures. It would also appear that these places have chosen Thursday nights as the prime night to attempt to draw people in and I was pleased to discover that Cashaca café bar & lounge also had a deal for free Italian tapas on Thursday nights...
