Micro brewery launches first real ales

A NEW family-owned micro-brewery based in Paphos will launch a selection of beers this weekend at the Kamares festival in Tala.The family was granted permission to brew by the government only recently having fought red tape and bureaucracy for almost three years.A selection of beer will be ready for tasting at the festival, and for free too. “Four of our cask condition beers will definitely be ready for people to taste, a fifth is in the tank and it may also be ready by then. We will have more available soon as we have over 10,000 litres of beer in the tanks, in five different styles,” said master brewer Chris Richards... 10 comments

Resort interest sold for €290m

INVESTORS from Hong Kong have bought the Venus Rock Golf Resort in the Paphos district for €290 million.According to an announcement by Dolphin Capital Investors, a company associated with the Aristo development company in Limassol, the project will include two golf courses, a five-star hotel called Nikki Beach Hotel, two large sport centres, a shopping mall and residential areas, that will be sold to international organisations which are based in Hong Kong.Managing Partner of Dolphin Capital Partners Limited, Miltos Kambourides described the transaction as landmark... 5 comments

A PLAN to improve the image of police in Paphos and increase the level of service offered was presented to officers yesterday.Head of the Paphos police, Nicos Sofokleous said on the first Monday of the month his door will be open to the public from 12 noon until 2.30pm. During this time members of the public can present any complaints.Paphos police spokesman, Nicos Tsapis, also announced that on the first Wednesday of every month police members can visit the police headquarters to make recommendations for improving the police service and image. ... 2 comments

The tourism industry is urging residents to holiday at home this year to help beat the crisis.The head of the Paphos regional board of tourism Nassos Hadjigeorgiou said this would be the message given to everyone who attends the three-day annual travel exhibition ‘Taxidi’ which opens in Nicosia today.“In particular the Paphos tourism board is urging Cypriots and locals to spend the summer at home this year,” he said.Hadjigeorgiou said officials are still unsure as to how the domestic market will react to the crisis. Twelve flights affected by strike

Coral Bay beach in best condition for a decade

CORAL Bay beach in Paphos is in the best condition it’s been for the last decade according to local officials.Peyia councillor and head of the beaches committee, Nikos Konikkos said: “The beach is the best we’ve seen for at least a decade and there is plenty of sand this year. In fact, I believe that in the coming months we will see that the beach will be bigger than usual, due to the sand which is being brought back into the area by the tide.”The blue-flagged beach often loses thousands of tonnes of sand a year to the sea, and the winter of 2011 took its toll with some 10,000 cubic metres deposited in the water around 150 metres off shore... 9 comments

British Airways extend flights for Paphos

BRITISH Airways have announced that they will extend their flight schedule between Paphos and Gatwick until November this year.The airline usually ceases its programme in October. Nassos Hadjigeorgiou, the manager of the Paphos regional board of tourism welcomed the move yesterday saying it was a positive step and would strengthen the airline’s presence in Paphos.“You could say that this is the first step towards having an all year round flight, which is our aim. Maybe British Airways will start their flight programme earlier next year as well,” he said.During the summer season, British Airways has four flights a week from Gatwick to Paphos from April until the end of October... 4 comments

Luxury liner boost for Paphos visits

 THE LUXURY cruise ship the MS Europa anchored off Kato Paphos yesterday at 8am, the fourth stop on its itinerary, after setting off from Dubai and passing through Abu Dhabi and Egypt’s Sharm El Sheik. The ship was due to leave Paphos at 4pm yesterday, destined for the Greek islands of Rhodes and Symi before weighing anchor at its final destination of Valetta in Malta. The Europa’s 337 passengers had the opportunity to visit the harbour and other sites in the area. Paphos Mayor, Savvas Vergas said he would offer all possible assistance and services to visitors, so such visits might take place in the future, adding that the Europa was one of the largest cruise ships around... 9 comments
