UK team says Ayia Napa Soccer Festival organisers upset their children
A BRITISH football academy has said it will report the organisers of the Ayia Napa Youth Soccer Festival to UEFA after their team was disqualified following a quarter-finals victory.The organisers “threw us out of the tournament without any explanation, just stating we were asking too many questions,” 47-year-old commercial director Clive Lewis told the Cyprus Mail.Lewis’ 10-year-old son, Magnus, was not actually in the team that was disqualified but he, along with all 22 families who came over especially, was “very, very upset,” Lewis said... 16 comments
CFA blame the state for problems in football
THE CYPRUS Football Association (CFA) has hit back at President Demetris Christofias’ attack on local football, when he said ‘football leaders’ needed to do more to avert hooliganism and match-fixing.In a lengthy announcement on Saturday, the CFA said it agreed with the President that football shouldn’t serve economic or petty political interests. “So we are wondering why the President made these statements, which originate from and identify with petty political interests and consist of harsh criticism, without seeking the necessary information that could be obtained from the ‘leaders’ of football, as he likes to call them,” it added... 5 comments

THOUSANDS of disgruntled fans of Nicosia football team APOEL were yesterday forced to leave the GSP Stadium in the capital empty handed, after queuing for hours to secure a ticket to their team’s Champions League match to Real Madrid on Tuesday.Some had slept in the stadium’s car park overnight to be sure to get their hands on the much-desired tickets, while others started arriving from as early as 2 am.But what really riled fans was that it wasn’t until around 11.30am when an announcement was made that there would be a limited amount of tickets available... 11 comments
