  • Court for man who called the president an idiot

    A 35-YEAR-OLD man appeared at the Nicosia District Court yesterday to face ‘public nuisance’ charges after calling President Demetris Christofias an ‘idiot.’

    According to police, the 35-year-old was driving his car on August 3 last year when he saw the presidential limo, poked his head out of his window and allegedly shouted: “Idiot President, quit”.

  • MPs want new charge on power bills suspended

     

    FOR EVERY €100 of an electric bill, only about €70 accounts for the actual cost of electricity, the remaining €30 covering various fees imposed by the power utility, an opposition MP said yesterday.

    Lefteris Christoforou, chairman of the House Commerce Committee, was commenting on the rising number of complaints by consumers over their high bills.
