1,350 pigs burnt in pig farm fire

Cyprus1350 pigs were burnt to death in a fire which broke out at a pig farm yesterday. The pig farm, located in the area of Menikou, suffered extensive damage to its infrastructure and machinery.
The fire, which started at around 6:30am, resulted in the death of large numbers of the livestock before it was brought under control. From initial examinations carried out at the scene, authorities are provisionally excluding the possibility of arson. Further investigations are being undertaken into the matter by the Electro-Mechanological Service in conjunction with the Fire Brigade. Peristerona police department is also investigating the matter more deeply.
The total damage caused by the blaze has initially been estimated at €200 000.
