THE MARIANNA Lordos Cancer Memorial Fund in collaboration with the UCL Cancer Institute in London will hold its 10th Symposium on cancer diagnosis, prevention and treatment from March 12 to 14 at the Golden Bay Hotel in Larnaca.

The symposium will cover the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and genetics of breast, colorectal and prostate cancers and the diagnosis, treatment and genetics of lung-oesophageal cancer. Participants will also discuss cancer genetics and their targeted therapies, haematological disorders, the future of clinical trials and cancer prevention and genetic counselling.

Clinical research scientists and doctors will be on hand to discuss each of the topics with the public. They will also present the latest research findings in the diagnosis, treatment and genetics of the disease.

According to the fund, cancer is becoming more common in humans, with one in four European citizens developing cancer at some time in their lives.

“One of the central objectives of the Marianna Lordos Cancer Memorial Fund is to contribute to the continuous updating and improvement of the quality of services offered by organising conferences [such as the 10th Symposium] and encouraging the increased use of cancer research programs by organizations in our country,” read a statement issued by the fund yesterday.

The symposium is being organised under the auspices of the Health Ministry, the Pancyprian Medical Association, the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients & Friends, Europa Donna Cyprus, the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and the Cyprus Anticancer Society.
