Dramatic increase in UFO sightings

By Nathan Morley Published on July 22, 2010

IF ALIENS are choosing the Cyprus as a holiday destination, it appears it is becoming more popular, as the number if sightings have shot up recently.

In Protaras on Monday, over a dozen people reported seeing a strange orange light passing slowly through the sky, before ascending over a hill.

“It was beautiful and mesmerising,” Shirley Daniels told the Cyprus Mail, “It was fairly high in the sky and moved with no sound, it also had a beautiful white aura.”

The mysterious object appeared to float from Famagusta towards Protaras, but was also later spotted by other baffled witnesses in Dherinya, Ayia Napa and even Oroklini.

“My niece and I watched it for about 20 minutes, it really was the most awesome sight I have ever seen,” Daniels added.

A few weeks ago witnesses watched an oval shaped object accelerate very quickly and then swing from side to side near Larnaca beach, that was followed by reports of a ‘comet shaped craft’ hovering in the skies near Xylophagou.

Clusters of mysterious craft, bright white lights and strange, triangular shaped objects are just some of a huge surge in UFO sightings reported in Cyprus over the past year.

UFO enthusiasts have been increasing interested in documenting local sightings since as Cyprus Mail report two-years documented an account by a former British soldier who claimed he witnessed an ‘alien craft’ crash in the Troodos Mountains.

Former soldier Tom Clarke, who was part of a six man British Army unit on a late night patrol in 1973 recalled what happened when they spotted strange lights in the sky.

“We were all awoken at about 2am by a brilliant bluish dazzling bright light in the sky, what happened next is hard to explain. There was not an explosion, but we were all hit by a shockwave and fell flat to the ground. The light just disappeared or went out,” Clarke said.

The soldiers were ordered to collect debris and place it into black plastic bags; Corporal Clarke managed to conceal some small pieces of golden tinted foil from amongst the wreckage – which is now in the hands of UFO Magazine.

The Troodos range, which is home to several military communication stations, has been location of dozens of reported “UFO incidents” over the past half century.

I was in Fig Tree bay, protaras with my husband and two other people in May this year. It was late at night when as we crossed the road to go back to Christalla hotel we saw a light in the sky heading towards us. At first, it was just a bright light and as it came slowly nearer it became bigger and changed into to a fire ball. we couldn't believe our eyes! The fire ball was coming nearer and nearer to us and then changed again to what looked like rock getting larger in size and eventually slowly hovering over the hotel and landing on empty land next to the hotel. We headed over to see the object from a few feet away. The object had shrunk in size. The next day we went back to see it but it was gone!

Ha new it. I am a totally sane normal person and very sceptical on these things but two weeks ago my 11 year old daughter and I saw a craft of some sort with flashing green lights over the sea at Finikoudes. We both def agree that it was not a plane due to the shape and colour and the way it was moving. And it was def not a chinese lantern as I have let of few of these off myself at parties in the UK. If it was none of those then what was it???????

Farmers are calling for an outright ban on flying Chinese lanterns after numerous reports of livestock deaths.

The demand came yesterday from the NFU Council, which said moves by manufacturers to make the lanterns safer were too little, too late.

Thousands of the lanterns – carried aloft by heat from a lit fuel cell – are released every year at events including weddings and birthday parties.

But farmers say the wire frames can fall into fields of forage crops and risk being chopped up and inadvertently fed to cattle. The wire can also get tangled around the animal's feet or embedded in skin.

Officials say they have a dossier of cases where this has caused harm and death.

The NFU earlier called for a voluntary ban on lanterns but yesterday the ruling council said because of the tardy response of manufacturers, the UK should enforce a complete ban similar to those imposed in Germany and Australia.

The union's acting director of communications Terry Jones said: "We have given manufacturers, as well as suppliers, time to take on board our concerns and move to a safer and more environmentally friendly solution.

One possibility is to class the lanterns as trade waste making it illegal to dispose of them anywhere but at a licensed site.

Well lets give the CTO (cyprus tourist org.) some credit, they said they will get new, fresh, and different tourist to come here for their holidays...
Well get a a couple of stories running here and there and every 'x-file' chaser will rush to see, well something in the sky and spend some money here or there...
On the otherhand hope they do come, the UFO'S, be a nice change to the Island, probably get more cense out of them than most here

Sorry but 98% of these sightings are chinese lanterns, set off from a beach party, and then seen by a group of old men at a coffee shop who have no idea what they're seeing.

Bill Yeager from Europa comments:

Can we just clarify that the term 'UFO' means 'Unidentified Flying Object', not alien spaceship, nor inter-dimensional being, or even supernatural entity. Just plain and simply flying objects that, as yet, remain unidentified.
We live on an island with numerous military aircraft buzzing around at different times of the day and night as well as the fact that meteorological factors, such as dense haze or fogs are prone to distort objects and lights, so what's more likely, natural and man-made phenomena, or inter-galactic visitors who can't stay still long enough for a decent camera shot?

These are 100% no lanterns.
Last summer about 10 pm I saw a bright yellow "moon" move over the hills from Latchi towards Pafos.
My neighbour saw the same.
We just stood mesmerised
.No sound, but big like the moon and bright yellow
.
I also saw the same night one at aircraft level skim the top of pafos town and excelerate over the sea.

The triangular ones I aslo have see over Limassol, stationary for about 30 min, then move fast away, lightning speed.
But the biggest shock was one winter night,I heard such a loud noise inside my house, helicopter blades but so loud my house was nearly shaking.
To this day this is very frightening,I saw or made the outline of a completely black helicopter, hovering so low it was nearly on my road,NO lights at all, just all black and enormous helicopter, where I live its dark and not much street lighting.
I rang the Pafos airport ,air traffic, but no body answered,so I emailed Greece air traffic as that is the only one on the internet.
I am still waiting for a reply.
Have given up ,as people don't believe me.
A final note ..I do not dismiss the fact we are so close to Israel and their experimental defense systems must be practised somewhere!

One of two recent UFO sightings in China occurred almost on the 63rd anniversary of news that a "flying disc" had been found in Roswell, New Mexico.

And like in 1947, people either choose to believe or be skeptical that visitors have stopped by from outer space.

Nothing has officially been ruled in or out by Chinese officials, who are looking into whether the objects were private or military aircraft, rocket flares, reflection in the sky or something else.

The first sighting occurred at Hangzhou's Xiaoshan Airport, in the eastern part of the country, according to the state-controlled Xinhua news agency.

Eighteen flights were delayed or rerouted and operations shut down after twinkling lights were spotted above the terminal around 9 p.m. July 7, the agency said. According to Xinhua, speculation has centered on a private aircraft. The state-run China Daily quoted a source saying the object had a military connection.
