Heavy snowfall shuts down Troodos roads

UPDATED 1:50 Police announced that some roads to Troodos have opened but only for four-wheel vehicles or those fitted with snow-chains.

Those are: Prodromos to Troodos, Kato Amiantos – Karvounas -- Troodos and Moniatis – Platres -- Troodos.

The road from the Troodos square to the Olympos peak is closed for all vehicles.

Police said there is fog in the area and urged all drivers to be extra careful and apply safety rules while driving.

All roads to Troodos were closed for all vehicles earlier today due to heavy snowfall.

The Kakopetria to Karvounas, Pedhoulas to Prodromos, Pedhoulas to Ayios Nicolaos and Prodromos to Trooditissa roads are only open to four-wheel drive vehicles or those equipped with snow-chains.

Police also had closed the road between Kelokedara and Nata, through the Zyripillis bridge, after the river overflowed.

The road between Kelokedara and Salamiou was also closed due to landslides.

The roads between Gerakia, Kykkos and Stavros tis Psokas and Macheras to Kionia are open only to four-wheel drive vehicles or those with snow-chains.

Police also said the road between Palehori and Agros was dangerous due to light snowfall.
