A 55-YEAR-OLD deaf man was crushed to death by a truck yesterday while trying to unload fruit and veg at a supermarket in Lakatamia. Family man, Neoclis Neoclous went to the parking area of Kolias Supermarket with his pick up truck yesterday to drop off some perishable goods. A truck owned by the supermarket owner was blocking his access to the fridge in the back so he got in the truck and moved it.
According to the supermarket owner, Nicos Kolias, the 55-year-old forgot to pull the handbrake. By the time he got out of the vehicle and opened the fridge, the truck had rolled back, pressing the man to the fridge door.
He was found at 1.45pm by supermarket staff stuck standing between the fridge door and the truck. Kolias told reporters that he could have been there for up to an hour before anyone saw him. By the time the ambulance took him to hospital, it was already too late.
