P5 give their support to leaders

CyprusTHE AMBASSADORS of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (P5) yesterday expressed their full support to the efforts made by President Demetris Christofias to reunify the island.
The ambassadors of the US, Russia, China, Britain and France were invited by Christofias to the presidential palace for a briefing on the ongoing talks and the recent visit of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Speaking on behalf of the P5, British High Commissioner Peter Millet said the five ambassadors welcomed the progress that has been made in the negotiations for a Cyprus settlement.
“We, as P5, gave the president all our support in his efforts to reunify the island and also as P5 the support we have for the UN in facilitating that process,” said Millett.
Meanwhile, UN Special Adviser to Cyprus Alexander Downer said yesterday that the UN looked forward to the continuation of the talks between the two leaders.
Speaking after a meeting with AKEL leader, Andros Kyprianou, he underlined that both leaders were committed to continue the talks.
