TOTTENHAM Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has been found not guilty of both counts of tax evasion after jurors accepted his denial that he avoided tax on any payments more than £189,000 found in a Monaco account.
Redknapp’s acquittal alongside co-defendant, and Serbian entrepreneur, Milan Mandaric concludes a five-year £8 million police investigation.
According to espn.com Mandaric and former Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie were also cleared of £600,000 tax evasion claims at a previous trial.
In an emotional two week trial at London’s Southwark crown court, Redknapp was said to be close to tears after the crown accused him of telling lies to avoid prosecution.
At one point in the trial Redknapp told prosecutor Mr Black: "You think I put my hand on the bible and told lies? That's an insult, Mr Black, that's an insult.''
However jurors accepted his defence that the Monaco account in the name of his dog, Rosie, was nothing to do with footballing matters.
Judge Anthony Leonard made no comment other than to discharge the jury.
