Restaurant review: Oineas, Limassol

The summer heat has settled for good which means when steppe g out for a meal it has to be worth braving the elements for. A new restaurant in Limassol seems to be worth it, generating quite a buzz from tourists and locals alike. Ineas is relatively new to the dining scene, it is fresh and hip and just what you need for a good night out, whether it is with a large group of people, or an intimate date.
The ambience the restaurant strives to maintain is quite simple; adherence to the traditional meze taverns. Immersed in the centre of the old town, in the new and improved Heroes Square, its surroundings further aid the goal of staying true to the traditional. Housed in a small establishment with stone walls, and tables spread outside on the square, it is all basic but never simple.
The service is impeccable and very friendly, customers are made to feel at home in the cosy environment. This is reinforced with the choice of entertainment. House singers move from table to table and perform, no microphones, nothing electric, just music. The personal performance for every table makes the customer feel quite special, and yet when the performers leave you can still listen to the music without it being too loud for you to carry on a conversation.
On to the food. Obviously your first and main choice of the night should be the meze, which comes in at the reasonable price of €20 and includes salad, tahini, tzatziki, beetroot salad, olives, halloumi cheese, lountza, sausages, mushrooms, feta, eggs, fries, giant beans, pork, beef patty, lamb liver, chicken kebab and pork kebab. And the portions served mean you are more than satisfied. All the dips are homemade and great asides to the ‘main’ part of the meze.
The mushrooms and sausages are cooked in a traditional style, while the feta was served in greaseproof paper, warm and with assorted tomatoes. This is something that must be tasted. The warm feta and tomatoes complement each other perfectly and make a great appetizer. The meat choices will make an even greater impression. The lamb liver might make you squint, but it is something that should be tasted. The pork was cooked to perfection and the kebabs were a great conclusion to the meal.
If the meze is too much for you, you could chose the chicken and pork kebab, a pork steak and beef and pork patties, none of them going over €12. Or there is the ouzo meze, which consists of the usual assortment of dips, feta, saganaki mussels, fried anchovies and grilled shrimp, for €11 per person.
All in all, if you feel like a taste of the traditional Ineas should be your first option.
