Bar Review: Perama, Limassol

An evening out at Perama in Limassol is a celebration of music and if rock and ballads are your cup of tea then this is a place not to be missed. Perama has operated on the Limassol night scene since forever it seems, but what used to be a bouzoukia place has completely transformed into a quality music scene with performances by a team of truly talented young singers.
The venue is located at the heart of Limassol’s old town that is now emerging as the most vibrant and interesting dining and entertainment area in town. Found on a narrow street, next to an ancient monument and a stone’s throw away from the Medieval Castle, Perama fits right in with this charming local atmosphere.
From the onset, Perama was perceived by Limassol residents as the piece missing from the town’s nightlife puzzle. The venue has a resident team of singers, including Vyron Potsos who recently released his first solo album. In addition, on occasion, acclaimed artists from Greece such as Lavrentis Mahairitsas perform at Perama.
On the inside of this charming stone building the space is huge, but despite being consistently packed you still feel comfortable and not oppressed in the way that nightclubs may often make you feel.
Those wishing to secure a table should book in advance and chances are there will be something available either on the ground floor near the stage, or the top floor balcony. Alternatively you can just turn up and sit at the bar. Bear in mind that this is one of the few places in Limassol where the smoking ban is enforced. A couple of tables have been placed outside the entrance where people can take cigarette breaks.
Whichever way you see it, if you are a music lover this place is truly exciting. It is also a place where you can just relax as there’s no dress code and no pretentious faces. For those who are not into Greek rock music, part of the show is dedicated to select English songs. Entrance is free.
