A 35-YEAR-OLD man appeared at the Nicosia District Court yesterday to face ‘public nuisance’ charges after calling President Demetris Christofias an ‘idiot.’

According to police, the 35-year-old was driving his car on August 3 last year when he saw the presidential limo, poked his head out of his window and allegedly shouted: “Idiot President, quit”.

ISRAEL IS reportedly sounding out the government over a request to station military jets at the Andreas Papandreou airbase in Paphos. 

If the reports prove accurate, the first-time visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Cyprus next week may coincide with a ground-breaking shake up of geostrategic dynamics in the region. 

THE HOUSE of Representatives adopted a resolution last night accusing UN Special Adviser Alexander Downer of lacking credibility and of hampering the Cyprus negotiations.

It stopped short of calling for the Australian’s replacement however, despite calls by some deputies to do so.
