Five star style at Nubar within the Amathus Hotel, Limassol

You may expect that an evening at a bar in an upscale five-star hotel could be a somewhat sombre occasion, and would therefore be exceedingly surprised at how entertaining a night out is at Nubar in the recently-renovated Amathus Beach Hotel, Limassol.

In terms of deco and ambience, Nubar is uniquely chic but inviting, reflecting the hotel’s five-star status. Following the recent renovation, the beachfront wall of the bar has been transformed into a wall of glass that affords uninterrupted views of the hotel’s lush gardens and beach.

The classy furniture from select Italian design houses combines a chic and sleek appearance with real comfort. The onyx bar adds to the sense of elegance and luxury, while the dimmed evening lights create a sense of comfort. The bar also features a large veranda with comfortable sofas, tables and outdoor heating that offers views over the hotel pool and beach.

Nubar’s live entertainment programme features a living legend of Limassol’s hotel nightlife: vivacious performer Terry who boasts a presence of almost three decades in the field and whose name has practically become synonymous with afterhours entertainment at Limassol’s top hotels. I fondly remember my parents talking about Terry’s singing after a night out and almost 20 years later, I too was taken in by Terry’s performance of popular Greek and international tunes.

Terry sings at Nubar every Saturday evening, together with resident piano player and two lady singers. This is definitely a show worth watching, but make sure you reserve a spot in advance because tables are usually fully booked on Saturdays. On the evenings of other days the piano player performs on his own or with one of the lady singers.

As for drinks, they are of a quality you would expect from a five-star hotel and are generally priced around the same rates you would find in any other Limassol bar. The menu offers an excellent choice of aperitifs, spirits, classic and designer cocktails, sparkling cocktails, champagne, wine and beer. Pamper yourself and try the delicious Bellini - a mix of champagne with peach puree.

If you don’t feel like drinking, the menu offers a good range of virgin cocktails such as the yummy Strawberry Wonderland comprising coconut syrup, frozen strawberries, pineapple and lime juices and whipped cream.

If you happen to get hungry there’s a good range of reasonably-priced gourmet temptations including burgers, sandwiches, steak, salads, finger food, sweets and pastries. During the day the bar operates as a café and offers an excellent choice of classic and more imaginative hot and chilled coffee and tea-based drinks that are also available in the evening.

If looking for some variety in your night out, definitely try Nubar - its ambience alone is a spirit-lifter.
