No glitz, jus reasonable prices and good fun

Robin Hood pub in Paphos is in the middle of the tourist strip of Ayios Antoniou street, better known as Bar Street.

One of the long established venues on the street, it opened its doors in May 1995 and it’s still a great place to visit for a fun night out.

The wooden interior and themed exterior make it popular with overseas visitors, but as the owner Costas Arsinas is a well-known Paphos face, it’s also a hang-out for locals and visitors from other towns.

The pub has a relaxed vibe and a well established clientele mean that this pub is able to stay open all year round when others in the street have to close for the winter season due to a lack of custom.

Drinks are well priced and served with plentiful bowls of complimentary popcorn.

Robin Hood has a small raised stage which is used both as a dance floor and as a setting for karaoke nights, which seem to still be popular in the seaside town.

A resident DJ plays all that you would expect from a venue in the middle of the nightlife street, from old favourites to classic tracks and the latest international remixes.

The pub has a friendly atmosphere and people often get chatting to each other at the large horseshoe shaped bar which is found to the right of a reasonable sized room.

There is also a covered outside space which until the smoking ban came into effect was only busy during the summer months. Now, it’s a haven for those no longer permitted to smoke inside.

The bar staff are friendly and efficient and Robin Hood is also a favoured destination for groups of revellers out on the town celebrating hen and stag nights.

The recent Paphos carnival saw themed parties and competitions at the venue, which often has special events and promotions taking place.

People of all different ages drink here and mingle well with one another. Arsinas said, “we have many popular drinks here but favourites include the Robin Hood special cocktail and our pina colada”.

They are well priced too, costing a reasonable €3.90.

Arsinas said that the venue is starting to get busier as the new season approaches and confirmed that big events coming up include the beer and wine festivals.

He is also the president of the bar and club owners association of the street and has been campaigning to upgrade the area to encourage more people to spend a night out there.

Robin Hood is not the place to go for glitz and glam but it is the place to go for fun, reasonably priced drinks and a bit of a boogie. It’s also a popular haunt with partygoers as a prelude to a night of clubbing.

A great atmosphere and nice staff make this venue well worth a visit.
