When late Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe first appeared in her glamorous pink dress, it was an instant iconic cultural and fashion moment. And the allure of that garment endures to this day.

While Marilyn remains the embodiment of the glamorous Hollywood image, that dress is more than that… it is a symbol of what she represents: an empowered woman, beautiful on both the outside and inside.

Marilyn wore the dress while singing ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’ in the film ‘Gentlemen prefer blondes’, instantly making her performance a legendary moment in cinema and fashion. The pink dress, with matching pink gloves, paired with diamonds, has since become symbolic of the actress’ glamorous image.

Flash forward to today, and many celebrities have paid homage or copied Marilyn’s classic look. Kylie posed in the same get-up for Halloween, but the most striking copy was Anna Nicole Smith, for whom Marilyn was a personal inspiration. Other famous personalities who see the late Hollywood star as a role model include Paris Hilton, Ariana Grande, Camilla Cabello and Nicole Scherzinger.

But perhaps the most memorable tribute – to both the actress and her famous dress – was the video to Madonna’s 1985 hit single ‘Material Girl’, in which the pop queen appeared, dressed in… you guessed it, a pink dress modelled on Marilyn’s original.
