In this video, host of The Fashion Archive YouTube channel, Odunayo Ojo explores the world of so-called ‘Gorpcore’ fashion, a style which is trending particularly high among Gen Z consumers.
Gorpcore is a term coined by current ‘Wirecutter’ deputy editor Jason Chen to describes a fashion aesthetic embracing the great outdoors. Gorp stands for “Good Ol’ Raisins and Peanuts” – a nod to the type of energy snacks regularly used by hiking enthusiasts during trail runs and expeditions.
At its very core, the Gorpcore aesthetic is about utility. Gorpcore garments can, for example, sport extra pockets for carrying food supplies, while GORE-TEX pro materials for advanced waterproofing and breathability are standard clothing features of the style.
Brands associated with Gorpcore include Arc’teryx, Salomon and Patagonia.
