Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly obstructing an officer in the execution of his duty, assaulting a police officer and for illegally possessing a narcotic substance.

During the same incident, another 21-year-old was also arrested for carrying a knife, police said.

According to Paphos CID chief and spokesman Michalis Nicolaou, a crime prevention squad on patrol stopped a suspicious car for a check at approximately 2.15am on Wednesday.

During the check, they said, officers were obstructed by the 21-year-old driver who was shoving them around for which he got arrested.

Following a check, police found a fanny pack belonging to the driver containing cannabis and a half-smoked hand rolled cigarette containing traces of cannabis, they said.

The passenger was also arrested for carrying a knife.
