Workers from the Turkish Cypriot Famagusta municipality have been given training on how to remove weeds from historical building and the town’s historical walls.
The training was given by Doruk Akal and Ahmet Kanan from the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, with the project financed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
It is hoped that with the training now having been given, gardens and green spaces within Famagusta’s old town, as well as the walls themselves, will be free of weeds and thorns.
The municipality said it is carrying out the weed removals with the aim of “protecting the town’s cultural heritage, hoping to pass it on to future generations and preserve its contribution to tourism.”
