Three men appeared in court in northern Nicosia on Thursday morning after a 24-year-old man died in a fire in an apartment block in Mia Milia in the early hours of Wednesday.

The police representative in court said two of the suspects, aged 25 and 20 years old, entered the apartment block “for an as yet unknown reason” before setting fire to items inside the building using a flammable liquid.

The fire they started was found to have caused the death of Derrick Bamfo Ampomah, who lived in the building, and caused “serious injuries” to 24-year-old Jonathan Maukle Adjabeng.

The pair, as well as a third suspect, aged 42, who is believed to have been connected to the incident, were all remanded in custody for one day.
