A 20-year-old man from Achna was released on €5,000 bail by the Dhekelia Sovereign Base Area (SBA) Court on Tuesday after being charged with grievous bodily harm for allegedly stabbing his father in the leg.

The man, whose court date is scheduled for November 16, is barred from returning home and must stay with his uncle.

The incident reportedly took place on November 7 during a dispute over a mobile phone, leading to the father’s admission to Larnaca general hospital for surgery.

The SBA police were alerted by the accused’s brother, who reported the incident after his father was taken to the hospital. The 20-year-old later surrendered to authorities.

Dhekelia Chief Inspector Fanos Christodoulou described the incident as serious and handled under firearms regulations.

Thankfully, the man was not seriously injured and is okay, but we must ensure this does not go unpunished, and if found guilty, he will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” he said.
