A new exhibition opens in Limassol this week, presenting the work of five artists who explore the unpredictable and transformative nature of contemporary reality through the collective act of reflection. Titled Fury Tails, the exhibition is inspired by the Surrealist technique of Exquisite Corpse and the artists exchange fragments of ideas of their works that strangely link together – tail by tail – into the unfolding narrative, ready to be revealed by an attentive viewer.

“The project’s title itself plays on the phonetic similarity to fairy tales,” say organisers, “but the substitution of the words for the similar sounding ‘fury tails’ disrupts traditional associations with such narratives. The title thus reflects the shifting and fragmented psycho-emotional landscape of our time, in which constructive narrative structures degrade to contingent storytelling ( = storyselling according to the contemporary philosopher Byung Chul Han), leaving us adrift in a turbulent stream of unpredictable consequences.”

The opening and reception this Friday will be attended by Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis, while the exhibition will remain on display until January 11.
