The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) said Thursday that it has cancelled a second-division football match scheduled for this weekend after being alerted to suspicious betting activity.
The game in question, which was to take place on Saturday, is between Onisilos and AEZ Zakaki.
The CFA said it decided to postpone the match following advice from the police concerning possible match-fixing. Football’s governing body has re-scheduled the game to Sunday, January 5.
Earlier, the police had put out a statement about the suspicious betting activity, calling on the CFA to take whatever action it deemed necessary.
The police also advised the National Betting Authority to remove the game in question from any bets.
Any bets placed on the suspended match so far would “not be taken into account and the money will be refunded to those who placed bets”.
