A bill for fostering children is being submitted to the House of Representatives, with the best interests of children in mind, Deputy Welfare Minister Marilena Evangelou said on Monday.
The bill will modernise the legislative framework, upgrade the institution and strengthen the services provided.
Several provisions are included in the proposed bill, which are already being implemented by the Social Welfare Services based on circulars.
An important provision included is the institutionalised participation and information of the child, according to their maturity and age.
The law also includes active participation of a multidisciplinary team with the participation of all involved ministries for the implementation of an individual care, protection and rehabilitation plan for each child.
Another provision, already implemented, is the institutionalised transition to adulthood with the possibility of extending support and care until the age of 21, with support by a professional continuing after adulthood.
This will involve support, vocational training and social integration, as well as a financial aid plan for studies, professional equipment and benefits for the smooth continuation of family and professional life.
Furthermore, the bill addresses care of children with disabilities, providing specialised services and ensuring that their needs are met.
In addition to professional fostering, alternative forms of childcare are also institutionalised, including various forms of fostering from traditional to kinship and daycare.
