Gloria Gallery will host the seventh solo exhibition by Andreas Karousios. Titled Erotic Painting – Squares, the exhibition will run at the Nicosia gallery from February 4 to 25.
The Athienou-born artist will present a new body of work that is characterised by erotic themes. In Erotic Painting – Squares, Karousios showcases a collection of works combining ink with oil pastels, coloured pencils, and other techniques. His creations are rendered on paper, canvas and wood, demonstrating a diverse approach to materials and techniques.
Karousios’ work draws inspiration from emotions, memories and mental states, creating a unique artistic narrative. His pieces are part of public and private collections in Cyprus and abroad, and he has participated in numerous group exhibitions.
In anticipation of his exhibition, visual artist Savvas Christodoulides comments: “Each of his works represents a union of the celestial and the earthly, the real and the imaginary, the solid and compact with the fluid and malleable, the chaotic with the tangible. It is a painting style that does not narrate but invites the viewer to immerse themselves in a visual condition that guarantees both timeless artistic values and contemplative achievements.
“Karousios’ work,” he concludes, “is a significant chapter in the history of painting in this region. Alongside a few of his contemporaries, he strongly proclaims and faithfully expresses the sanctity of the practice known as painting.”
