Police have now arrested a total of five suspects as of Thursday for incidents of violence outside the Apollon stadium last month.

The most recent arrest made was of a 32-year-old man, who is expected to be brought before court on Thursday.

According to the police, the 32-year-old was arrested on Wednesday following evidence secured in the investigation.

The others arrested are a second 32-year-old, two 24-year-olds and a 22-year-old, while ten people are still being sought.

The incidents occurred when approximately 100 fans from Omonia 29M, a professional football club based in Nicosia, gathered in Zygi, and then travelled Limassol where the Apollon – Omonia 29M handball match was being held.

Instructions were immediately given to cut off traffic in the stadium area, while riot police intercepted the fans a short distance from the stadium.

According to the police, the hooligans were carrying batons and other makeshift weapons, had their faces covered with hoods, and several wore anti-suffocation masks

Riot squads moved in using tear gas and managed to push them back and disperse them.
