An upcoming recital titled Aphrodite’s Song brings to the stage the talents of soprano Marianna Suri and pianist Nicolas Constantinou. Organised by Ledra Music Soloists, the recital is set to charm audiences on Monday at the Strovolos Municipal Theatre.
In alignment with the recital’s title, the evening is dedicated to the diverse and multifaceted portrayal of female characters, coming to life through myths, 19th-century European literature, 20th-century Cypriot poetry, and the island’s popular traditions.
“The figures of Phidylé, Mignon, Sappho and Ondine, along with the Cypriot maiden, are connected through the metaphorical presence of Aphrodite,” say organisers, “a representation of the modern woman. Aphrodite, as also a symbol of timeless femininity, adds an extra layer of meaning to the exploration of passions, contradictions and the strength that defines the female experience.”
As such, the recital will be a unique musical journey that dives into the beauty, complexity and ever-lasting spirit of the feminine. On stage, Suri and Constantinou will perform pieces by Duparc, Schumann, Michaelides, Debussy, Ioannides and CY Stylianou. “Don’t miss the chance to experience a programme that weaves melodies, emotions and symbolism,” conclude organisers.
