Next week several new art exhibitions join the island’s art scene. Opening first is Rea Afantitou’s exhibition Mirror in 40 Rooms which will be housed at Gloria Gallery in Nicosia from March 5 to 22.
The visual artist will present a new body of work and much of her career is based on the study and research of concepts such as the trace as a carrier of memory, forgetting, identity, otherness. She has taken part in several group and personal exhibitions in Cyprus and Europe and this time, she is presenting a solo showcase.
Also opening in Nicosia next week is the Light from Light exhibition by Alexandros Yiorkadjis, curated by Daphne Nikita. The exhibition is influenced by the theme of Resurrection and also examines the idea of ‘enlightenment’. His artworks, diverse in their presentations, will remain at Centre of Contemporary Art Diatopos from March 7 to 27.
On Saturday, NYX Hotel in Limassol will host the exhibition Scent of a Woman, presenting works by Elena Shiakalli. The showcase captures the essence of femininity through bold strokes and raw emotion and will be displayed in the hotel grounds from March 8 to 23. What’s more, a portion of the exhibition’s proceeds will support the Amerikos Argyriou Center for Preventive Pediatrics.
