The 49-year-old Swedish national, Hans Jonny Uven, who escaped police custody in December pleaded guilty to felony charges and escaping from lawful custody before the Larnaca court on Thursday.

Meanwhile, his 54-year-old lawyer and a 44-year-old police officer are under investigation as suspected accomplices in his escape.

The Swede remains in custody, while his alleged accomplices were released on parole following a court decision on February 10.

The lawyer faces charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, aiding a prisoner, and money laundering. The police officer is accused of conspiracy to commit a felony, aiding a prisoner, abuse of power, and engaging in corrupt transactions.

Both suspects were required to post a €15,000 cash guarantee, surrender their travel documents, and report to authorities three times a week. They have also been officially barred from leaving the country.

The final sentencing of the Swede and the hearing for the other two suspects is scheduled for March 13.

The Swede was initially arrested at Larnaca airport on December 6 under a European warrant issued by the Swedish authorities. He is allegedly involved in financial crimes amounting to approximately € 90 million in his home country.

On December 22, while being treated for chest pain and acute gastroenteritis at a private clinic in Larnaca, he managed to escape despite being under police guard.

After a one-day manhunt, police located and arrested him in an apartment building in Larnaca. He has remained in custody ever since.

His lawyer and the police officer were arrested on December 31 on suspicion of aiding his escape and were remanded in court in early January.

Both were remanded in court in early January.
