Paris St Germain have nothing to lose in their Champions League clash at Liverpool, making them dangerous opponents as they look to overturn a 1-0 deficit, coach Luis Enrique said after Saturday’s 4-1 win at Stade Rennais.

PSG remain unbeaten in Ligue 1 this season after clinching their sixth successive league victory for a provisional 16-point lead over second-placed Olympique de Marseille.

Luis Enrique said the win at Roazhon Park would lift his team’s spirits ahead of Tuesday’s game against Premier League leaders Liverpool after the disappointing home defeat in the first leg.

“I think we’ll be in the best possible shape for the Liverpool game. We’ve got nothing to lose. Our only objective is victory and that’s what we’re going for,” the Spaniard told reporters.

“Football allows for surprises; it is true that we were down and sad after the (first leg) game but as we have analysed the game and after beating Rennes, which is a difficult team, it makes us hopeful.

“I repeat, we have nothing to lose, which makes us a more dangerous team than we usually are.”

Luis Enrique also placed his trust in PSG’s tactical versatility and praised his players’ strength of mind in their quest for titles this season.

“I have to emphasise the mentality of my players, that all of them, whether they play or not, are competitive and want to fight for everything. It’s a pleasure for me to coach them,” he said.

“Our strength as a team is that we don’t just limit ourselves to one role, we are very good at having the ball in the opposition half but we are also good going deep with the opposition pressing; I like the balance in the team.”

PSG host Marseille in Ligue 1 next weekend, after their trip to Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen will show they are a complete team against Bayern Munich in Tuesday’s Champions League last 16 return leg even without injured midfielder Florian Wirtz, ruled out for weeks with a ligament injury, coach Xabi Alonso said on Monday.

The news of Wirtz’s injury is a major blow to the reigning Bundesliga champions, who must claw their way back from a 3-0 first leg loss to the Bavarians in their all-German clash.

“I am really sorry for him because he was in a top moment,” Alonso told a press conference. “Now it is a good moment to show we are a complete team and that we can go on without him.

“Once the ball is rolling many unexpected things can happen. For us, this game is all-in, make or break.”

The 21-year-old Germany international suffered a ligament injury in their 2-0 home loss to WerderBremen on Saturday and will be out of action for several weeks, the club said on Monday.

Wirtz, who has scored nine league goals and set up another ten, has netted another six times in the Champions League, and he will also miss Germany’s Nations League quarterfinal legs against Italy on March 20 and March 23.

Barcelona will honour the life of their late team doctor Carles Minarro Garcia by giving everything to try to win Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 tie against Benfica, manager Hansi Flick said during a short press conference on Monday.

Following a moment of silence, the German said it had been a difficult last two days as they mourn the passing of Minarro, who died suddenly in the team hotel hours before Saturday’s scheduled match at home to Osasuna, which was postponed.

He said the players will find extra motivation against Benfica, who they lead 1-0 from the first leg, to pay tribute to a man who was respected and well-liked in the changing room.

“I think the team is handling the situation well. We are very focused on the game and we want to play for him. In this situation it is very important to win for him. We are ready for it,” Flick told a press conference.
