Ready for something you’ve never heard before? Breach Festival returns to shake up Cyprus’ music scene, giving audiences tunes and performances unlike any others.

The 4th edition of Breach Festival returns enriched and ready to showcase exploratory music to the Cypriot audience. On April 11 and 12, Ktirio 53 – Experimental Arts Hub of Nicosia in Chrysaliniotissa will transform into a vibrant hub of sound and creative freedom.

“We invite you to join us with curiosity,” say organisers. “The festival is dedicated to improvisation and experimental music,” they add. “The goal of Breach Festival is to promote and strengthen musical traditions in Cyprus such as free improvisation, contemporary classical music, experimental electronic music, sound art, free jazz, and many other uncharted sonic paths.”

For the fourth time, the festival is organised by the NGO Make Music Cyprus and in collaboration with Irtijal Festival in Lebanon; the longest-running experimental music festival in Beirut, Space21 in Kurdistan/Iraq; an internationally recognised festival of avant-garde sound and No Ordinary Festival in Thessaloniki.

“Our festival network contributes to the growth and promotion of improvisational and experimental music in the Mediterranean, creating new opportunities for artists to present their work on an international level. This year, the festival expands even further,” say organisers.

Musicians from Cyprus, Greece, Lebanon, Kurdistan/Iraq, France, Switzerland and the Czech Republic will perform on the Nicosia stage, all renowned in the fields of improvisation and experimental music. Yet the festival is not just a series of concerts across two evenings – it is an immersive experience in sound exploration and interaction, introducing audiences in a way to experimental sounds and alternative performance styles.

“Experimentation becomes the language of communication between artists and audiences, creating a space for dialogue through sound,” add organisers.

Participating this year are: Patrik Abi Abdallah, Stelios Antoniou, Artemis Vavatsika, Gregory Dargen, Gaba Project (Christina Polycarpou and Vasilis Vasiliou), Werner Hasler, Hardi Kurda, Panagiotis Mina, Giorgos Bizios, Andria Nicodimou, Alkis Nicolaidis, Petr Vrba and Jörg Holland.

Four acts will perform live on day one, April 11, and another four will take the floor on day two, with the music starting at 8pm. Tickets are already on sale online.
