A 30-year-old wanted after a loaded gun was found last November in an open area of Konia community, Paphos, was arrested on Wednesday night for conspiracy to commit a crime and the illegal possession and carrying of a gun and explosives.

The police said on Thursday that the suspect had been wanted since November. He later sought treatment at a private clinic in Nicosia, giving a false identity as he knew the authorities were searching for him.

Investigations began on November 4, 2024, after the police received a tip off that a car without number plates was hidden in a remote area of Konia.

The police found the vehicle and began monitoring the area.

On the same night, a second vehicle was seen approaching the hidden car.

Two people got out of the second car, one of whom was holding rags and a jerrycan.

The police tried to stop them for inspection and managed to apprehend a 41-year-old. The second suspect managed to get away, only to be arrested the next day.

The 41-year-old was found to be in possession of a knife. The police also found a complete firearm cartridge and a shell casing in the hidden car.

The rags and jerrycan containing flammable material, as well as a loaded gun, a hood and a pair of gloves were found in the area the second suspect was seen running through.

The 41-year-old was tried by the Paphos criminal court and released on parole. A 33-year-old was then arrested and released as nothing incriminating had been found against him. The 30-year-old was arrested on Wednesday.
