April’s last weekend is here as hard as that is to believe. This can only mean more events, festival comebacks and outdoor happenings as the weather turns warmer. This weekend there is a lot happening – poetry festivals, live music from local and international artists, street food, traditional events and sustainable fashion happenings. Take your pick!
Currently on is the Larnaka World Poetry Festival with readings and events taking place at various locations in the old town until Sunday. Invited artists and local authors are hosting literature events to celebrate the world of poetry and the written word.
In terms of music, there is a variety of events going on this weekend. In Limassol, Cypriot artist Nama Dama will present her album Pagan Soul at Polyxoros Synergeio on Friday, joined by the young and emerging musician Alexa Michael, who will also perform her original music.
At The Shoe Factory in Nicosia, two esteemed concerts will unfold this Friday and Saturday. First up, Antoine Morinière will present a guitar recital as part of the 19th Guitar Festival EGTA. The evening’s repertoire will include Spanish works by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Isaac Albéniz, Joaquín Turina and Carlo Domeniconi.
On Saturday, more guitar sounds will fill The Shoe Factory as the Molina Guitar Duo take the floor for their debut Cyprus concerts. Isabella Selder and Santiago Molina Gimbernat will deliver a programme featuring works by Fernando Sor, Jean Françaix, Manuel M Ponce, César Franck and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
This weekend will also have two highly-anticipated food events; the return of the Fork Food Market in Nicosia and Latsi’s 10th Fish Festival. In the capital, the Nicosia Municipal Gardens will welcome back the beloved street food event which marks its season-opening event this Friday.
A dozen street food vendors will set up their stalls in the park preparing meals from around the world while DJs play uplifting music and bars serve fresh cocktails. At Latsi Harbour in the Paphos district, the annual Fish Festival will return on Saturday for a whole-day extravaganza. From 8am to 8pm, there will be music, fishermen, cooking demonstrations from chefs, watersports activities and shows that will entertain old and young.

Another seaside town will hold coastal happenings this weekend but in a totally different mood. Heatwave Festival on Molos Promenade this Saturday and Sunday will be all about fitness classes, endurance and mobility. Throughout the weekend, a series of body pump, yoga, pilates, spinning classes and more will take place with the sea as the backdrop. Invited guests will deliver special workouts for those seeking outdoor activities.
Finally, on Sunday a Fashion Revolution Day will take over OPU House in Agioi Omoloyites, Nicosia from 10am to 8pm. The event by Fashion RevolutionCyprus will be all about sustainable fashion and social change with a second-hand clothes bazaar, a clothes mending workshop at 3pm, a documentary screening on the fashion industry and an open discussion at 6.30pm. The event is free and open to attend, inviting people to a day out in the neighbourhood to encourage giving our clothes a second chance.
