A fire that broke out at dawn on Wednesday in a large agricultural warehouse in Polis Chrysochous was brought under control by early morning and an investigation into its causes has been launched.

The fire service, the police, and the force’s electromechanical unit, are cooperating to determine the causes of the blaze which broke out in the Limni area at 5am, causing an estimated €500,000 worth of damages.

The fire’s smoke plume was widely visible as it hung over the entire Polis Chrysochous bay. Four fire engines from the local station, a tanker from the forestry department, and a private excavator were dispatched to the scene, fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis said.

The warehouse, constructed of concrete and metal sheeting, belongs to a 78-year-old farmer and was being managed by himself and his 40-year-old son. It housed a tractor, a harvester, two other private vehicles, and agricultural machinery, all of which were extensively damaged.
