The police arrested another person on Sunday evening in the context of investigations into the May 18 attack on a football fan club in Lakatamia, Nicosia, it was announced on Monday.

The 18-year-old arrested on Sunday will be taken before the Nicosia district court on Monday for a remand order.

Four more people – aged 40, 22 and another two 18-year-olds – had been arrested last week.

The suspects are being investigated for a range of offences, including conspiracy to commit a felony, unlawful entry, causing a disturbance, malicious damage, being armed with intent to commit a felony, carrying a weapon to incite terror and assault causing actual bodily harm.

The attack took place at around 10pm on Sunday, shortly after a match between Omonia and Apoel. Approximately 30 individuals, some wearing clothing associated with rival football team Apoel, stormed the fan club premises, assaulted staff, and caused damage. Three people were injured.

Video footage recorded outside the building showed two cars approaching the area, leading to the arrest of their owners. One of the suspects, the younger of the two, claimed he had no involvement in the attack.

Police said dozens more suspects are still being sought.
