The time for outdoor events under the summer night sky is here! Soon, magical evenings in the garden of Technopolis 20 will add a fragrant aroma to Paphos’ cultural life. To celebrate the season-opening, an evening with the popular local band Macumba is set for Sunday, June 1 at 7pm.

The evening promises to be a musical cocktail of Brazilian funk, samba, rumba and guaguanco Afro-Cuban, blended with a modern post-jazz aesthetic. The famous band is made up of three Cypriots and one Chilean, and presents a different approach to Latin music, with an explosive repertoire which includes original songs and some Latin jazz covers.

Born in Cyprus, the band gravitates towards Latin jazz and world music. The collaboration between Elias Ioannou, Giorgos Morfitis, Rodrigo Caceres and Rodos Panayiotou brings a breath of fresh air to the music scene of the island. Brazilian rhythms and Afro-Cuban colours blend with a modern jazz aesthetic and the result is featured in the album ‘Como Jugando’, which was released in 2019.

Macumba has presented their music at various festivals and concert grounds with great success in Cyprus and abroad such as Unesco’s Gardens of Sound Music Festival in Poland, Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival, Windcraft Festival, Rialto World Music Festival and Aglanjazz Festival. On Sunday evening, it invites audiences of all ages to celebrate the start of the summer season with groovy hip-shaking music.
