After the first Silk Festival was held in Kalavasos this spring and warmly welcomed by visitors, the Bee & Embroidery Museum in Kato Drys is creating something new. This Sunday, June 1, it will bring back to life the story of silk in the village.

In a special, one-day event, Kato Drys will be filled with activities dedicated to silk, tradition and the women who wove with patience and artistry to create pieces important to Cyprus’ cultural heritage.

From 10am to 4pm, visitors to the village will be able to discover traditional silk garments and dowries and silk embroidery. Yet the event is not simply about witnessing traditional crafts, it is about tales being kept alive. As such, guests will also be able to discover personal stories about silk and its tradition, as well as bridal keepsakes. Special storytelling sessions will take place as well as guided tours.

All of this, with free entrance to the Bee & Embroidery Museum. “See up close all stages of the silkworm’s life cycle, from eggs to cocoon,” says the museum. “Rest beneath the soothing shade of the mulberry tree. Come share the magic of tradition and journey into the world of silk through the stories and creations of our ancestors.”
