Ayia Napa has signed two new supply deals worth a total of €140,000 as part of its push to upgrade beach infrastructure and improve services for visitors this summer.
The municipality confirmed on Wednesday that it will purchase new sunbed cushions, beds and umbrellas with ashtrays aimed at improving comfort and cleanliness along the popular resort’s coastline. A large portion of the funding will come from the deputy ministry of tourism’s beach upgrade grant scheme.
The first deal covers 450 beach cushions for €39,389 including VAT. The second agreement involves the purchase of 88 sunbeds and 1,500 umbrellas with mounted ashtrays, with a total value of €105,612.50, also including VAT.
In a statement, the municipality said the initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to enhance the beach experience for visitors.
“The aim is to offer high-quality, aesthetically pleasing equipment while promoting environmental awareness,” the announcement read.
The ashtrays, in particular, are expected to tackle the long-standing problem of cigarette litter, helping to keep the sand cleaner and more inviting for both tourists and locals.
The deputy ministry of tourism’s grant scheme, which supports projects that upgrade the quality and look of beaches, will subsidise a significant part of the total cost. This financial support was highlighted as essential in helping the local authority maintain high standards during the busy tourist season.
