Voters in Tsada will head to the polls this coming Sunday to elect a new church committee, following a decision to annul the previous one.

The elections will take place between 9.30 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. The move follows instructions from the acting head of the Paphos Metropolis after the previous committee was dismissed by the former Metropolitan of Paphos, Bishop Tychikos.

This new vote comes amid ongoing disagreement over Bishop Tychikos’ future role in the Church. A support group backing the former bishop is calling for changes to the Holy Synod’s recent statement. However, the Archbishop has made clear that the Synod’s decision is final and must be respected.

Church sources confirmed that the Synod’s ruling on Tychikos’ status is definitive and cannot be reversed. Still, the supporters say they are waiting for the church to fulfil certain conditions so that Tychikos may be granted a new title or position.

The Holy Synod is due to meet again on June 23 to decide the bishop’s future. Until then, the focus in Tsada remains on ensuring that this Sunday’s elections proceed smoothly and without dispute.
