A weekend full of nature, tradition and fruit awaits at Kampos tis Tsakistras as the annual Cherry Festival is on. Returning for another edition this summer, the two-day festival on Saturday and Sunday will celebrate the cherry harvest season and honour local heritage and tradition.
Organised by the Kampos Community Council in collaboration with the Kampos-Tsakistra Cultural Development Association, the event will immerse visitors into a Cypriot countryside that is in full bloom now, right before the high temperatures take over. Through a variety of activities, the festival aims at boosting the local economy, and showcasing the region’s cultural and natural richness.
Throughout the two days, visitors will be able browse and purchase fresh cherries, traditional products and handicrafts from the stalls set up. Hands-on workshops will also engage guests with Cypriot crafts and teach them the art of wool spinning, traditional bread-making, jams and halloumi cheese.
Children will have their own activities and workshops at the nearby Sakura Park, the Japanese cherry tree park where a special guest appearance will also take place. Cartoonist Sotos Voskarides and his team will be at Sakura offering fun moments, while the Japan embassy will set up its own stall with traditional Japanese sweets.
Of course, it would not be a traditional festival without some live entertainment. Live music, DJ sets, Cypriot dancing and local and Cretan songs will be performed by Symeon Merkouris, Stelios Papamichael and Christina Polykarpou.
Want more things to do? Discover the village’s charm through guided walks, partake in family activities and taste street bites from the food vendors. And all of this, with free admission.
