With water becoming so short in the future with global warming, certainly hotter summers here in Cyprus and less rainfall I am horrified to see people still hosing down pavements outside their gardens. Although it is illegal they still do it. A Cypriot friend once said to me until there is no water coming out of their taps they will use it wastefully on dusty pavements and roads.
Perhaps if water bills were adjusted accordingly to these house residents, giving them a reasonable amount of water for their domestic use at normal prices and then adjusting the price up for over the top use perhaps they would not squander it.
I use water only when needed even running water in the shower filling up a watering can to use while the water is getting warm enough to shower.
Water is precious everywhere but here in Cyprus it is something we all need to think about especially now and for the future.
