This summer, Cyprus will host one of the four groups in the final phase of Fiba EuroBasket 2025, marking the largest sporting event the country has ever undertaken.
The tournament, running from August 27 to September 14, is co-organised by Cyprus, Finland, Poland and Latvia, with the final match taking place in Riga, Latvia.
The 24 participating teams were divided into four groups of six teams at the Fiba draw in March.
Cyprus will host Group C (Spain, Greece, Italy, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus) at the Spyros Kyprianou Sports Center from August 28 to September 4.
Each team will play the other teams in its group once, with a total of five matches per group. The top four teams in each group will advance to the knockout stage.
The event marks a historic moment for Cypriot basketball and sport: the Cyprus national team will make its first-ever appearance in the EuroBasket finals, while also becoming the country’s first national men’s and women’s teams, in any sport, to participate in the finals of a European championship.
Cyprus will also become the smallest organising country in the 90-year history of the EuroBasket tournament this August.
Since 2015, Fiba has changed the format of the EuroBasket, with the final phase being co-hosted by four countries to reduce costs and give smaller countries opportunities to host the event.
The tournament has already attracted significant enthusiasm in Cyprus.
According to the Cyprus Organising Committee for Fiba Eurobasket 2025, over 600 people applied to volunteer for the event, and 373 people from Cyprus and 15 countries abroad were selected.
President of the Cyprus Basketball Federation Andreas Mouzouridis said that 2025 will be the summer when Cyprus will live to the rhythm of basketball.
